Tuomiokirkko-Turku Cathedral

Turku Cathedral

Turku Cathedral, which is considered as one of the important records of the Finnish architectural history, is located in the center of the city. When we went to the cathedral, it was quite big and its old structure affected us. It had a historical architectural structure. The Aura river passes by the cathedral. One of my favorite activities was to cycle through the large area in front of the Cathedral.

According to the information I researched online, hundreds of people were buried under the cathedral. I also saw articles about the tomb of the politician, clergyman, soldier, princess and queen. Normally the churches in Finland are not too loud, but Turku Cathedral is quite loud. Every hour, the number of bells are ringing.

If you think of the very old years, the number of bells reported to the public at times when there was no technology and there were no clocks in the houses. Since the city is located around the cathedral, a meeting, activity, lesson etc. When it was to be held, people would perceive the clock from the number of rings and get ready to go out. Since the distances are also very close, it took fifteen minutes for the bell to ring and people to prepare and meet at some point.

When I researched the history of the Cathedral, I learned that Finland was considered the most important religious structure, which has witnessed very important events in the history of the country and has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. I also learned that Finland is the center of Christmas celebrations.
The cathedral was originally built and made of wood in the late 13th century. It was damaged by a huge fire in Turk. It was later repaired.By the way, let's point out, the height of the cathedral is 86 meters.
